Situated on Huai Kaew road, Suthep sub-district, Mueang Chiang Mai district, 5km far from Chiang Mai city just next to the Huay Kaew Arboretum, Chiang Mai zoo is a big zoo with a variety of local and imported animals, e.g. Giant Panda, a diplomatic gift from China, Koala from Australia. The zoo is divided into three zones and offers many kinds of activities for the visitors.
Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium, an aquatic living museum with a 133-meter underwater tunnel and the exhibition zone with penguins and finches, a small colorful bird with a nickname “flying jewels” are opened to visitors. You can travel around the zoo by the air-conditioned monorail, which can carry 50-70 passengers each trip and stops in the 4 highlight attractions along the 2km route. Open from 10.00-16.00 on Monday to Friday and from 09.00-16.30 on public holidays. The fare for adult and kids is 290THB and 190THB respectively.
Nakhon Ping Bird Aviary, a large bird aviary which covers an area of 6 Rai, is the biggest bird aviary of Thailand where you can explore vast array of more than 132 local and international bird species with the scenic view of waterfall.
Zoo kids Zone, a kid zone, features many lovely animals and various recreations for kids. This zone has been improved in every aspect, e.g. location, plaything, learning media, which will help enhance kids’ imagination.
