Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, or the so-called Isan Safari, covers the area of 545 Rai and is occupied by more than 1,800 animals of assorted species. Due to the geographic distributions of suitable climate condition, the zoo houses “the Big Five” or the 5 most iconic animals of the African grassland, namely lion, leopard, African elephant, white rhinoceros and buffalo. In addition, there are giraffe, zebra, a herd of antelopes, the biggest troop of chimpanzee, seals in Thailand’s first seal college, nocturnal creatures, amphibians, as well as, a conference room and living quarters by the pond.
Services and facilities with the premises:
1.The enclosures in which wildlife from around the world are kept have been landscaped to match their natural habitats as much as possible. In front of each enclosure stands an information sign concerning general knowledge of a certain kind of animal.
2.The zoo provides public education for students and general visitors. It is also an ideal place for relaxation.
3.There are several means to wander around the zoo. Tourists can walk, rent a bicycle/ golf cart, or hop on the guided tram. ATVs for kids, pocket bikes and jet boats are provided for your entertainment. Coin-operated arcade games, traditional massage, souvenir photo booth and souvenir store are also available.
4.The accommodations include 22 traditional Thai living quarters fully equipped and located by the pond.
5.The conference room with presentation equipment can accommodate 150 -200 people.
6.The zoo offers 2 excursion packages for school students, namely one-day program and 2-day one-night program. It is an ideal place to learn about wild animals, conservation and natural science. The program aims to foster the conscious mind about wildlife, nature and environment among the youth. Not only that it is totally free of charge, but students are exempted from the admission fee and tickets for animal talented shows. The zoo also provide food and camping ground that can accommodate 500 people.
7.Visitors can enjoy the talent shows from Cape Fur Seals whose loving character and intelligence can bring laughter to the audience. The zoo is regarded as Thailand’s first seal college that provides training courses to seals nationwide. The seal shows are performed on Mondays – Fridays at 11:00 and 14:00, and on Saturdays – Sundays at 10:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:30.
8.“Korat Zoo Lagoon” is the biggest water park in North-eastern Thailand where families can have fun with the giant slide and Jacuzzi pool.
9.The learning center for wildlife conservation is open to students and general visitors. It is equipped with modern learning materials and was designed to raise an awareness in animal predicament and environment. Moreover, the small-scaled theatre presents documentaries regarding natural environment and wild animals. It can contain the maximum number of 100 visitors and free of charge.
