Lopburi Zoo, also known as Sa Kaeo Zoo, is located in Mueang Lopburi District, Lopburi, behind the Royal Thai Army Cinema, about 100 metres to the east of Sa Kaeo Circle.

It was built in 1940 at the time when FM Plaek Phibunsongkhram was the Prime Minister of Thailand. Wanting to develop Lopburi into a major city, he had many places including the zoo built. However, when the Plaek era ended, the zoo was unfortunately abandoned.
After that, in 1977 Maj Gen Anek Bunyathi, then commander of The Special Warfare Command, together with several organisations, clubs, associations, businesspeople and the people of Lopburi decided to renovate the zoo and turn it into a place for relaxation and a centre for learning about flora and fauna. In this large zoo full of shady trees, tourists will have a chance to see Thailand’s wild animals, e.g. deer, monkeys, tigers, leopards, rabbits, turtles, elephants, kangaroos as well as orang-utans, the zoo’s celebrities that impress both locals and visitors from other provinces. In addition, the zoo provides an orang-utan show, snake catching, horse riding and goat milk feeding demonstrations, Likay (on Saturdays), etc. in order to entertain and give knowledge to all visitors.
