Pha Taem National Park is Thailand’s 74th national park. It covers approximately 212,500 Rai in the area of Khong Chiam District, Sri Mueang Mai District, and Pho Sai District in Ubon Ratchathani Province. It is an area with highland, mountain hill, and many steep cliffs. The forest here is generally a deciduous dipterocarp forest, which is a sparse wood. Despite of its frutescent trees, this forest is still naturally beautiful. The important types of tree are Teng, Rang, Hiang, Pradu, and Mueat. There are also other trees beneath this area, which are bamboos (Bambusa Bamos), grasses, and Khoi Hin. Besides, there are a number of beautiful flowers grown and spread generally in the nooks of the rock terrace, such as Yat Namkhang, Kradum Ngoen, and Manee Thewa.

Inside Pha Taem National Park, there are a lot of interesting tourist attractions, including:

Sao Chaliang. It is situated around 1 kilometer before Pha Taem. These natural stone pillars have been eroded by water and wind for million years. They look strange like a lot of mushrooms scattering.

Pha Taem. This naturally beautiful steep cliff is a breath-taking viewpoint and is the first spot in Thailand where sunrise can be seen. Besides, on the wall of the cliff beneath also found approximately 300 prehistoric color paintings. There is a walk path provided for the tourists to see these paintings.

Dong Na Tam Forest. It is situated in the area of Phu Na Tam, about 36 kilometers from the national park office. Here, the tourists can go trekking and enjoy the view of nature. There are a lot of interesting things along the way, such as Sao Chaliang Ku, Huai Phok Waterfall, Pha Chanadai, Pha Kampan, Pha Hin Taek, Kwang Ton Waterfall, Hin Yok, Phu Chom Kom, etc.

Soi Sawan Waterfall. It is a large waterfall where 2 brooks—Huai Soi and Huai Phai—flow from the opposite sides of the waterfall and join together, looking like a necklace. To go to the waterfall, the tourists have to go along the highway number 2112. At the 20th kilometer marker, turn right at the intersection for around 5 kilometers. After that, the tourists must go on foot for another 500 meters.
