Wat Chaiyo Worawihan or Wat Ket Chaiyo
Catagorize: Temple
Contact: Tambon Chaiyo, Amphoe Chaiyo, Ang Thong Tel. -

WatChaiyoWorawihan, or WatKetChaiyo, is a second-class royal monastery. It was at first a small temple when it was erected during the Ayutthaya period. Years later, during the reign of King Rama IV, a revered monk from WatRakhamkhositaram in Thonburi constructed a massive seated Buddha image out of white plaster in the temple. King Rama V also paid homage to the temple, and ordered it renovated. Unfortunately, vibrations from the renovation work caused the ancient seated Buddha image to fall apart, and a new image was commissioned.

The current image is similar to an image at famed WatKalayanamit, with a height of nearly 23 meters and a lap width of over 16 meters. It was graciously named PhraMahaphutthaphim, and celebrations commenced. In addition, a late 1800’s molded statue of SomdetPhraPhutthachan (To Phromrangsi) is also enshrined in at this temple.

WatChaiyoWorawihan or WatKetChaiyo is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, approximately 18 kilometers away from AmphoeMueangAng Thong, on Ang Thong - Sing Buri route. It is open daily from 8.00 am-5.00 pm.
