Namtok Khun Kon Forest Park
Located in the area of National Reserved Forest in Mae Kon sub-district and Huai Chom Phu sub-district, Amphoe Mueang district, Chiang Rai province, this forest park was established as forest park by the Royal Forest Department on January 21, 1982. It is surrounded by high mountains which is the origin of Mae Kon River. Huai Mae Kon brook, Huai Mae Mon brook, Huai Ya Di brook and Huai Lao Ai brook join to form Mae Kon River which finally join Lao river. Mae Kon River is the origin of Khun Kon Waterfall, the highest and the most beautiful waterfall in Chiang Rai province. This waterfall, with crystal clear water, is 70m high and flows all year round. Formerly, the locals call it “Tat Mok Waterfall” (Tat is Lao word which means waterfall.)
You will never be disappointed if you wish to have an experience to live in nature far from the artificial world. No electricity. There is nothing but pure nature. Only tent is provided for overnight stay. At night, you can hear sound from insects in the forest.
Admission fee is 20-80 Baht for adults, 10-40 Baht for children under 14 years of age (Admission fee is subject to change). No admission fee for children under 3 years of age. Children rate applied for students.
How to get there?
Namtok Khun Non Forest Park is located 33km far from Chiang Rai city. Reach there by highway no.1211 from Chiang Rai City. Turn right at 18th kilometer and continue for another 12 kilometers.Alternatively, you can drive on highway no.1 (Chiang Rai- Phayao) for approximately 15 kilometers before turning right and continue on for another 17 kilometers. From the base you need to trek for 30 minutes to reach the waterfall, which is ideal for adventurous trotters. You can also get there by Chiang Rai-Ban Pang Rim Kon minibus.
