Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai is an ancient temple that was built before Ratanakosin period. It is located by the bank of Samrong canal, Tambon Bang Phli Yai, Samutprakan. Initialy, Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai was named Wat Phlabphlachai Chana Songkram in commemoration of King Naresuan’s victory to Burmese army.

Inside the ubosot of this temple enshrined a large Sukhothai-style Buddha image in ‘Marn Vichai’ posture with eyes open. Made from bronze, it is the principle Buddha image of the temple that is highly revered among Buddhist people. The Buddha statue is called “Luang Phor To”. Therefore, Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai is known in another name as “Wat Luang Phor To”.  Significantly, in Lotus Festival Cast, Bang Phli local people has invited the replica of ‘Luang Phor To’ into the boat on every waxing gibbous, 11st lunar month.

Apart from Luang Phor To, there are also replicas of many famous Buddha statues from other temples for visitors to worship, such as Luang Phor Sothorn, Luang Phor Wat Ban Laem, and Luang Phor To Wat Pa Lelai, etc.  Moreover, there is also a pavilion for people to give alms offering to the monks, starting from the morning. The offering is organized into rounds for visitors to take turns.

One highlight in the temple that every visitor shouldn’t miss is the toilet, which is called “a high-tech toilet”. Many technological elements were added to facilitate the visitors, such as the automatic flushing system. Also, the temple has provided pleasant atmosphere for any travelers with its beautiful garden, and waterfall, which is a perfect scenery for visitos to take a photo.

Nearby, there is an old-fashioned Bang Phli floating market for tourist who would love to shop. It has survived through all these 150 years. The market sells food, and other useful stuff. Bang Phli floating market also opens for visitors to feed the fishes as well. It is open every day from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Transportation:From Bang Na intersection, take Bang Na-Trad Highway which leads to Chonburi. When reaching kilometer stone no.12, take a U-turn, then drive onto Bang Phli-King Kaew road. Keep driving around 3.5 kilometers. As soon as you see the intersection, turn left, then drive around 1 kilometer. Next, turn left onto Sukhaphiban 6 Road which leads to the entrance of Bang Phli District Office. Go straight around 200 meters, you will reach Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai.
