Namtok Than Ngam Forest Park is in the forest area of Khun Huai Sam Phat-Khun Huai Kong Si at Tambon Nong Saeng, Udon Thani province covering an area of 78,125 rai. It was declared as a forest park on 19 December, 1984. 

Topography

It is a mountainous area and part of Phu Phan mountain range. It was separated to the north. The area is slope and relatively flat on the mountain ridge. Many streams flow into Huai Sam Phat, Huai Nam Khong and Huar Kong Si. Huai Wang Kum is a dense forest and a bed rock at the south called “Lae Saat”.

Climate

There are three seasons: the rainy season starts from June to November, winter from December to February and summer from March to May.

Plants and wildlife

The forests are mixed deciduous; major species are Burmese rosewood, copper pod, Afzelia xylocarpa craib, Sindora Siamensis Teijsm, Vatica cinerea King, Dipterocarpus alatus Roxb.ex G.Don, Buram Sal, Burmese sal, etc. Undergrowth plants include bamboos, rattan, orchid, fern and raphistemma pulchellum (Rosb.) well. Wildlives found are wild boar, barking deer, mouse deer, monkey, gibbon, leaf monkey, palm civet, and birds. 

Accommodation and facilities

Namtok Than Ngam Forest Park has not provided accommodation to visitors. If they wish to stay here, they are required to bring their own tents for an overnight stay and contact the park chief directly or ask for more information at the management team of the park, National Park Office, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Bangkok 10900. 

Tourist attractions

At Huai Wang Kum, the water flows into Huai Nam Khong with waterfall, where water flows throughout the year. Upstream there are a cliff, a beautiful cave and a stone ground. To the south of the area, it is a large stone ground, or commonly called “Lae Saat”. From this point, visitors can view gorgeous and wide scenery. 

Travel: The park is 6 km away from Nong Saeng minor district. Three routes are available: 

•Route I Udon Thani – Ban Lao – Khok Lat – Nong Saeng minor district, totalling around 35 km. 

•Route II Udon Thani – Ban Kham Kling – Ban Tat – Nong Saeng minor district, totalling around 30 km. 

•Route III Udon – Thani – Huai Koeng – Nong Saeng minor district, totalling around 60 km.
