Those who love historical attractions cannot miss to visit “Piyamit Tunnel” in BetongDistrcit of Yala Province. 

Even though time has faded the story of Piyamit Tunnel into memory, visiting the place would bring back old days with new feelings. Various plants growing at the entrance has helped hide the one-kilometer-long tunnel. Piyamit Tunnel is located at Ban Piyamit, Tano Mae Ro Sub-district, Betong District, Yala Province. This area was once the base and the hiding place of the Malaya Communist. Later, the group left the tunnel, making the place become the spot where the next generations learn and reminisce the painful fights in the past. Inside the tunnel was painted in warm orangey yellow and divided into rooms according to functions such as bedroom and food storage room. The tunnel has air flow comfortably. 

Piyamit Tunnel opens daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.To get there, from Bangkok to Yala, take highway No. 4 (Phetkasem route), passing Phetchaburi, PrachuapKhiri Khan and Chumphon. Then, enter highwayNo. 41, passing SuratThani, Thung Song District of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phattalung, Hat Yai and Pattani, before reachingYala. From Muang District to Betong, take highway No.4 for about 140 kilometers and from Betong, take highway No. 410 for 5 kilometers. Continue the route for another 11 kilometers, you will arrive at Piyamit Tunnel.
